How Prism Referrals Work

Use this page to understand what the person sharing a code gets, what the new team gets, and when cash payouts actually happen.

Quick Answer

Prism referrals give the new team an immediate one-time discount at paid checkout, while the referrer earns a later cash payout only after the new team keeps paying long enough to qualify.

When To Use This

Read this before sharing your referral code, signing up with someone else's code, or estimating when a referral payout should arrive.

Prerequisites

You only need a Prism account to read this page. You need an active paid Prism team and completed Stripe payout setup to receive cash referral payouts.

Use this page to understand what the person sharing a code gets, what the new team gets, and when cash payouts actually happen.

Fast Path

If you are the new team, use the referral code when you start your first paid Prism plan. You get a one-time discount that equals about two weeks of the selected plan price. It is a checkout discount, not extra free-trial time.

If you are the referrer, your benefit comes later. Prism waits until the referred team proves retention, applies a hold window, and then releases payout through Stripe Connect once payout setup and review requirements are satisfied.

What The New Team Gets

The new team gets an immediate one-time discount at paid checkout.

Prism calculates that discount from 14 days of the selected plan price:

  • Monthly plan: 14/30 of the monthly price
  • Annual plan: 14/365 of the annual price

That means the discount scales with the plan the new team actually chooses. It is not a separate coupon amount that Prism staff picks manually.

The referral benefit is designed for a net-new paid signup. In plain terms, the code needs to be used when the team starts its first paid subscription. If the team already has subscription history, if the code is invalid, or if Prism detects a self-referral, the discount will not apply.

What The Referrer Gets

The referrer earns a cash reward only after the new team stays paid long enough to qualify.

To participate as a referrer, the sharing team needs an active paid Prism subscription and current referral terms acceptance. To receive money, the referrer also needs Stripe payout onboarding completed. Prism currently pays referral rewards through Stripe Connect.

Reward timing depends on the billing cadence of the new team:

  1. Monthly referral: the reward qualifies after the referred team completes 3 successful monthly payments.
  2. Annual referral: the reward qualifies after the referred team reaches 90 paid days following the first successful annual payment.

Reward amount also depends on the referred team's actual paid subscription amount:

  • Monthly referral: Prism pays 50% of the median of the first 3 successful monthly payments
  • Annual referral: Prism pays 50% of one month of the first successful annual payment by normalizing the annual invoice over 12 months
  • Current default minimum payout: $15
  • Current default maximum payout: $100

After a reward qualifies, Prism applies a 14-day hold window before release. Qualified rewards can still be delayed if payout onboarding is incomplete or Prism needs manual review before sending funds.

What To Watch For

Referral rewards are meant to reflect retained paying customers, not just a first click on a link. That means a few things can delay, block, or reverse payout:

  • Stripe payout onboarding is incomplete
  • The payout account is restricted or not eligible for referral payouts
  • Prism flags the referral for manual review
  • The qualifying customer payment is refunded, disputed, or otherwise reversed
  • Prism detects duplicate-customer or self-referral signals

The estimate you see in the referrals page is exactly that: an estimate until the reward is approved. The final amount can move if the actual invoice pattern changes or if the floor or cap rules apply.

FAQ

Does the new team get free trial time or cash back?

No. The new team gets a one-time checkout discount on its first paid Prism purchase.

Can an existing team use a referral code when upgrading later?

No. Referral pricing is for a net-new paid start, not a later paid upgrade on an existing subscription record.

When should the referrer expect to get paid?

After qualification, Prism still applies the 14-day hold window. Payout also depends on completed Stripe Connect setup and whether any manual review is required, so it is not instant after the qualifying payment lands.

Can a paid reward ever be taken back?

Yes. If the qualifying payment is later refunded or disputed, Prism may recover the referral payout.
